Attorneys from Greene Broillet & Wheeler secured a $46.5 million verdict against the law firm of Jones, Day, Revis & Pogue in what was at the time the second-largest legal malpractice verdict in history. Bruce Broillet and Chris Spagnoli of GBW represented Charterhouse, a New York investment firm. Charterhouse was represented by Jones, Day in the purchase of a building in downtown Los Angeles.
Charterhouse claimed it would never have completed the $81 million deal had Jones, Day given it all the information its lawyers had available to them. The jury awarded $45.6 million and the two sides settled before the jury could hear arguments for punitive damages.
